Do not miss 2nd Europe Code Week that will take place from October 11 to 17.

Making ICT careers more attractive is one of the objectives of the European initiative Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs. Basic coding skills will be needed for many jobs in the near future. More than 90% of professional occupations nowadays require some ICT competence. Moreover, ICT practitioners are a key pillar of the modern workforce across all sectors of the European economy with demand growing annually by 3%. However, the number of Computer Science graduates is not keeping pace. As a result, many open vacancies for ICT practitioners cannot be filled despite the high level of unemployment in Europe. If we do not appropriately address this issue at a European and national level, we may face a shortage of up to 900,000 ICT professionals by 2020.

Comtrade fully supports this initiative. We have been educating young students in EdIT Summer School throughout the Adriatic region for almost 20 years. Furthermore, we have been organizing Knowledge Factory/Fabrika znanja for students from Serbia and Montenegro for 6 consecutive years.
Through these and similar types of initiatives, Comtrade is enabling young generations to expand their knowledge in the area of information technology with the goal of improving their employability. In 2014, we supported the Project Manager of the Future, various job fairs in the region, and other projects that promote employment of women in ICT. In cooperation with local Universities, we are also organizing computer challenges for students called “Challenge for Genius Minds”.

Comtrade also supports the presence of women in ICT, which is why we joined the initiative Girls’ Day. Our objective is to encourage girls to consider exploring and applying for jobs that are currently dominated by men.
